Route for Bangalore to Madikeri, Coorg

Bangalore – Maddur – Srirangapatna – Hunsur – Kushalanagara – Madikeri is the best route. And the road is good too. You’ll need about 5 hours to reach. On the Bangalore Mysore highway, immediately after Srirangapatna, you need to take a right deviation (the same road to go to KRS). That will lead to Hunsur. You don’t need to go all the way to Mysore city. Not sure where you can have lunch, but I guess Hunsur or Kushalanagar would have some places.

How to go to Ooty from Bangalore or Mysore:

Are you planning to drive to Ooty this weekend? I have got some suggestions about the best route and the major attractions in Ooty.

Route is very straight forward and very simple.

Bangalore -- Mysore -- Gundlupet -- Bandipur – Gudalur - Ooty

Except for a small stretch of five KMS near Gundlupet, the road throughout is in very good condition. The road from Gudalur to Ooty is amazing and a very pleasant drive if you are not speeding up or racing......

AT the end of forest reserve (u get two roads here )- take the new one which is the one on right and that takes you to OOTY. If you love adventure take the road which is on the left through Ghats. It is short and saves time. Yes the road is narrow at some place abut good drive nevertheless. Amazing views. If raining, may be lucky to see some waterfalls ......Be prepared for some sudden weather changes in that area.. :) I gotta say they make the drive all the more interesting. The left road is recommended only if you are used to ghat driving. You do not have to pay anything while entering Tamil Nadu. The forest officials might stop you to check your license and registration, if travelling by your own vehicle.

The rule of the thumb while driving in hills - COME DOWN IN THE SAME GEAR IN WHICH YOU GO UP - to be safe. The ghat roads are open till 8 PM in the night.

Under normal driving conditions, it will take 3hrs to reach Ooty from Mysore

Suggestions for hotel booking in Kodaikanal:

Do you need to book a hotel for your stay in Kodaikanal? Are you looking for any suggestion; which is good place to stay… and what are all the places to visit? What is the best season to visit Kodaikanal?

Here is some help for you:

Personally, I would recommend The "Dalethorpe - The Home Stay". The hospitality is reallly good. The rooms and the food are good and hygienic. Hot water is available 24 hrs a day. The hotel reception desk # is 04542240656. The owner is Mr.Shahid and his # is 09443322710. The owner will take care of arranging for the sight seeing and will suggest the places of visit as per the climate. Some of the famous places to visit are: The Kodai Lake, The Coakers' walk, The Pine Forest, Bear Shola Falls, Top view of Kodai Lake, Kurinji Aandavar temple, The Jain temple, The 'Guna' Cave, The Suicide point, The Chettiyar Park

The months Jan to June is the good season to go to Kodaikanal as per the weather is considered but it will be crowded and also the rates will be double in these months. During the off season the rates would be minimum (Rs. 1000 per day) including morning breakfast. The sightseeing charges are separate. (Rs. 500 per couple per day)
